Shutterbug Jake and the Sounds Letters Make
Grades K - 1

box box Jake has taken lots of pictures to help kids associate letters with English phonemes. Early reading skills are addressed with a careful look at beginning sounds, ending sounds, and vowel sounds. Set options to focus in on Beginning Consonants, Ending Consonants, Beginning Blends and Digraphs, Ending Blends and Digraphs, Short Vowels, Long Vowels, or Vowel Digraphs and Diphthongs.

Once children can associate the letters and sounds, they are ready for the Build-a-Word activity, requiring them to put two to four phonemes together to form a word. Select cvc words, cvcv, or words with blends, digraphs, and diphthongs.

After each set, Jake presents a fun matching or rhyming activity to reward student success and provide additional practice with letters, words, and sounds.

Program Options: Teachers may set options to target lessons on Beginning Sounds, Ending Sounds, Vowel Sounds, or a culminating Build-a-Word activity. When working with Beginning Sounds, teachers may include Beginning Consonants, and/or Beginning Consonant Blends and Digraphs. Options also allow teachers to select only a specific one or few letters on which to practice. Likewise, with Ending Sounds, teachers may include all ending consonants, or may select specifically chosen ending consonants. Ending Consonant Blends and Digraphs may also be selected for practice. Vowel Sound work can be directed at Short Vowels, Long Vowels, Long Vowel Digraphs, and/or Digraphs and Diphthongs. Once a child has developed a functional mastery of beginning, medial, and ending sounds, they are ready for the Build-a-Word activity. Start with Level 1 (CVC pattern words) and work through Level 3.

Options and Easy Track: Set activity options for the whole class all at once or for any selected group or individual.

Student Records: A summary screen provides feedback on student performance for the latest session, last 5 sessions, and cumulative work to date. Scores may be viewed as number right/total, as a percent, or as a letter grade. The child can view the summary as a star chart. Student records may be printed. Open Easy Track for more detailed records. Compare individual records to class, grade level, or selected group averages. Assess graphs of student growth for any specific learning objective. A variety of charts and graphs may be customized and are available for printing.

Easy Track is included with all Micrograms programs.
